Governor Perry Opposes Confederate Flag License Plate
According to the "Austin American Statesman",the state Department of Motor Vehicles' governing board is considering approving new Texas license plates displaying the confederate flag. This is a very controversial and emotional issue for many people. Recently, Governor Rick Perry gave his opinion on the subject saying, "We don't need to be scraping old wounds". While, Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson disagrees saying that the confederate flag is a historical symbol. I think that both men have valid points but I do agree that having a confederate flag license plate would stir up too many emotions for many Texans. I think Texas citizens should be the ones to decide on whether or not the new license plate should be approved. Apparently, many Texas people disagree with the license plate idea because 2,000 signatures opposing the confederate flag license plate were submitted to the state Department of Motor Vehicles'. Because of all the controversy surrounding the license plate, I honestly don't think it will be approved but its a subject all Texans should be aware of.
